2. Membaca Al-qur-an
Membaca Al-quran seharusnya masuk dalam rutinitas harian kita. Logikanya sederhana.
Mari kita renung kembali. Semoga bermanfaat
Our beloved province Aceh has a unique culture which has made it distinguished from other provinces. It is coffee shop culture. In fact, we got a ridiculous name that is “region with one thousand coffee shops”. It may not be recognized by most Indonesian and foreigners but I guess most visitors to this province had this impression in their mind. And it might surprise us that 30 % of total buildings in Aceh are dominated by coffee shops. It is a great number, isn’t it?
The great number must have had certain influences to the culture of its society. Coffee shops are already everywhere from the corner of villages to the mains street of downtown with a lot of people who enjoy their coffee there. Some people spend their time there doing nothing. There might be hours wasted by useless talk, pointless discussion and endless debate. In the coffee shop with hotspot zone, people more likely to indulge themselves in playing bad online game such as Poker instead of browsing for new information and knowledge. Additionally, the advance of technology has really deprived our human values. It is not strange nowadays if we see people who initially want to discuss something important in coffee shop but they ended up being busy with their own gadget. The good habit which was once preserved by our ancestor by maintaining a good interaction and socialization with one another in coffee shop has gradually faded away. How long we could put up with the bad culture? The answer all the way depends on our selves.
Today’s people should maintain a good culture at coffee shop. It is by doing positive things that can eventually inspire others to do the same. Starting from individuals, a small action will make a difference, I believe. We need to remember that we are responsible to leave good examples to those who come after us. If we still maintain those bad cultures, how can we expect the next generation to be good coffee shop lovers?
Have you ever noticed around when you are passing roads, when you are happening to be in the intersection. Have you ever perfected your sight to see everything presented to you? Have you missed anything important ? Anything worthy of your attention. Yes, there are a lot of precious views which often flees our sight.
Well, quite often we find that views when we pass by main roads, orget trapped in the traffic jam. Those are no longer strange in sight these days. We often come across a little child wearing old torn cloth begging for whoever stopping in the intersection. Or a weary-looking woman carrying a little son on her hip slipping among vehicles while extending a pot to be filled with money . In some other moments, an elderly man sit aside the road with restless face reflecting how hard life he is dealing with. Of course, the description I present is merely physical. All are just the impression we catch at a glimpse. But should our natural instinct stop on that level of judgement. Should we just remain that lazy without trying to dig the meaning of their presence?
Actually, those people are the unfortunate ones who rely their destiny or daily earning on charity and gift . Every day they rush to the main street particularly in the intersection where their presence is quite seen and seize the travelers’ attention. Some of them wander around the mosque, going into one stall to another along the lane and sidewalk. In this fields nowadays, their being present everywhere is becoming something common and not attracting anymore. what I mean is, it could be the people who just have lost their sense of humanity or they just get bored to see the same faces wandering here and there every day.
Personally, I also have something ridiculous about some of them in my thought. I (if not better) dislike some of them who apparently look healthy and there was no sign of weakness like uhm let’s say those with disability or handicap. I don’t see either of the criteria sticking to their appearance. They look so fit which is similar to the state of working people. Isn’t it ridiculous, then? They are supposed to work but they simply choose to beg, losing their dignity.
In addition, human possess great sense of dignity even the religion taught so. We have to preserve it that we shouldn’t put ourselves into something which will disgrace our values. Particularly, this dignity keeps us from begging. Instead, we are taught to work and not be lazy. We have to get money from out of our own hand. Begging is considered to be dishonoured work. Both of religion and society discourage people from begging. And beggars are unfortunately thought have low rank of honor in our society.
But still, despite all this controversy, seeing those who beg around us is becoming a whip for our sense of humanity. That we are reminded of our better state than theirs. That we are being more fortunate than them. That we can afford high education for our children while their children have to wander with their parent everyday. They probably will never wear that uniform our children wear during school days. That they will never get good response from their parents whenever they discussed about going to school. All of these contemplative thoughts should be born frequently in our mind
Lastly, we have to thank those whom we see everyday begging around. Let’s just meet them and give something we could. Something that may relieve their feeling and unload their worries for the day. Let realize that their presence on earth is designed on purpose by Allah as a reminder for us to always grateful for whatever condition we have at this moment.
Teruslah berjalan!
Every student has their own inspiring teacher. I actually have many. And they are mostly English teachers. I don’t know why, definitely it is not because I like English subject the most. It is because they themselves that truly inspired me. Their being English teachers is merely accidental.
One of them that was really inspiring was Mr. Aziz. He was my English teacher in senior High School. We just studied with him for one year long in preparation of national exam. That one year was really precious moment. Later on, I wished why not we just studied with him any sooner but I realized that everything has been destined well.
Actually, every student, no matter how stubborn some of them are, always yearn for inspiring teacher, able to make learning a fun activity to do and successfully make student engaged with his/her class.
And thankfully Mr. Aziz could do that task well. He can carry out a good and fun teaching for us. Soon then, our class turned into a happy and fascinating class that no one ever want to miss his class anymore except the most stubborn ones. English was no longer seen difficult but “worth learning”. One teaching lesson from this point is “ it is not the subject itself that is difficult but it is the teacher who made it that way. And a good teacher is the hero delivered to save student interest to subject taught.
Many good words to describe Mr. Aziz. I hope I will not exaggerate anything about him. Here are more explanation :
None of us ever seen him coming late to class. Rather, he was very punctual. He really interpreted what he taught us about the word “sharp” in case of time.
English learning was getting more fun when Mr. Aziz put more creativity in it. We tried more new challenges like establishing drama class, speech, and improving listening skill by watching educational English cartoon movies.
Assertive teacher is often a bad looking teacher in students’ sight. But Mr. Aziz can be an assertive while was still acceptable. He can convinced that his being assertive is for our own virtue
- Smart and well informed
Being well-informed teacher is cool. Mr. Aziz is knowledgeable enough that he could always satisfy our curiosity about many things. He is a good storyteller too.
- Humorist and fun
This is the most important one in my opinion because fun teaching leads to fun learning.
Perhaps, there are many other important details that I miss, but honestly I was just really amazed by those 5 points. I hope I can be another Mr. Aziz when I am a teacher in the future.
It has been a while after my trip to Bangka Belitung. I was feeling bad for not updating this blog for a while due to some difficulties while we were there. Well, In other side, the trip has made me so happy because I really had a good experience being in that “paradise island”. Yep, the stories about Bangka Belitung Island is so bad to miss. I just don’t want to let the memories left in mere pictures but it needs more description. That’s why I want to recall it again here in my blog.
Let me call this spiritual journey because it is not solely our vacation but our trip there basically to participate in sort of “ Quran competition” or In Indonesia is normally called MTQ or STQ. The competition covers the skill to memorize quran and recite it in beautiful and melodious way. Those who come up as winner out of this competition will be participated to the higher level which is International level/ participated by All Islamic nation worldwide.
For this year, the competition took place in Bangka Belitung as the host exactly in Bangka Tengah. Bangka Belitung is one of provinces in Indonesia located near Sumatra Island. Bangka and Belitung are two different Island with distinguished uniqueness. Lately I was told that that the islands actually separated from Palembang province years ago due to administration reasons.
For the first time I was told to participate in this competition, I became so crazily happy. It means I would be joining with others participant from Aceh as the region representatives in the national level competition. It also means that I woud be visiting the island that has been on my places-to-go lists for so long time. I started to ponder Bangka Island as a must-to-go place since I knew its stunning landscape view especially beaches. They are beautiful and attractive. I guess most Indonesian local knows it and so does foreigners. So the chance going there is very precious.
Yes, finally I was there for about a week to participate in that big national Islamic event. We were expected to give the best performance we could as we are considered the “choosen ones” to represent our region in the higher level completion. However, the officials didn’t burden us with high expectation such as becoming the winner or something like that. We were just told to perform well so the result is not important anyway. Such telling at least could relieve my feeling personally after being depressed and worried of my own performance days before departure. LOL
For the first time arriving in the island, I start falling in love with it as soon as I saw its fascinating nature and landscape view from the air. The beaches were nice-looking with its white sand and rock frame all around. Then the plan carried us landed in the airport in Pangkal Pinang. We then received a warm welcome from local official and soon after that taken to our home stay. It was a hotel named Jaya Wisata. It was a tiring journey indeed so enough rest was needed for the day and in order to prepare both our mental and body to fight for the next days!!!
The competition stretched to about five days. Everyone has performed the best they could. Especially those from Aceh. I also have watched the performance of my competition mates from other province representatives. They performed very well. I could feel inferior watching them all. If you know what I mean. I can measure who I was compared to them. Actually I realized I have tried and trained less while they did more. No wonder they could performed better. It was such a ridiculous regret LOL. Yes regret would always comes in the end, right! But I should be grateful that this even, seeing all those better performance, boost my spirit. I believe in idea that that the only thing that distinguished successful people with the failure is they just struggle more. The competition result made me able to recognize and measure my position among them, what needs to be fixed, and most importantly what I learned from them.
We are done speaking about performance. Honestly speaking, I was satisfied with my performance. I have tried my best. So did my fellow Aceh mates. Now, time to explore Bangka Island. The only one thing that crossed my mind the very first day we got there, LOL. So, bear with a little while. I am going to recall the not-so-bad tale from the paradise island.
I was a bit disappointed that there was no trip to Belitung island which was once on our place-to-go list. It was because our remaining days there was didn’t suffice to visit the island. And it was always, more importantly all about budget. So, we just headed to beaches around Bangka. We have some experienced native Bangka to drive us to some beaches. They said the most reachable and exotic one was Matras Beach. So we headed there first and got there by noon.
And there we were pampered by a beautiful view, a stunning white sandy beach. The beach was very clean and nice looking. It could represent the whole kind in Bangka and satisfied our curiousity ever. Since we arrived there by noon when the hot weather at its peak, there is no experience with playing with the seashore and walking along it. Just taking some shots, I even took it a lot. I cannot resist it really. Seeing the beach with the green hill looming in the background. Yes Matras beach view was really burning my photography desire LOL.
After having light meals in a food stall, we left Matras. The drivers promised to drop us by another beach along the way to home stay. After around fifteen minutes we got to Teluk Uber. This beaches was actually more unique compared to the previous one because there were some huge stones elsewhere around damped in the water near the seashore. This was rarely seen at beaches in Aceh. Even though we also have very beautiful beaches but this rocky beach is very special. Sadly, we just stopped by a moment there as the darkness was about to embrace the day. It was a tiring day but we cannot take the rest yet because we need to prepare ourselves for the closing ceremony hours after that.
Bangka trip has carved a lot of stories in our heart especially mine. It was all about Gratitude, bunch of lessons, new spirit and brotherhood which made it a lasting and unforgettable journey for us. A spiritual plus vacation journey Heheheh
Do you know, these days the usage of social networking is very popular among people. It has been included in daily activities. Almost all people use it on daily basis. The most popular one is Facebook which starts to influence people’s life during the first decade of 21st century. There are about 800 million active users on this website. Facebook is all about keeping touch with friends all around the world who have account on facebook by sending messages, adding and commenting photos and posting statuses like saying “ I am going to mall”,” i love you, beibb” or simply “ I am terribly tired”. This service actually has both positive and negative impact to individual or societies no matter what their ages.
Generally, Facebook is considered very important as it is a medium for people all over the world to gather information and knowledge. Each member usually posts their ideas or share it till his or her friends can read it. So it gives dolution for those who don’t have enough physical contact or even don’t have enough time for direct interaction. This way, Facebook connect people all around the world, so it has great impact to social, political , economic and other life factors.
Beside all advantages it has, some disadvantages are also associated with this social website. Facebook can reduce the time spent with real people in one’s life because they frequently check their profile and update statuses. It actually can cause relationship problem as it exposes one’s life privacy. Excess usage of this social networking is resulting to the increase in the societal crime rate especially those relating to immorality or sexual abuse, some of the materials posted in Facebook unfortunately is pornography which may abuse the young children. Excessively exposing the information concerning people, their occupation, monitary condition have effects on societal crime rate for instance robbery.
What becomes my big concern is that Facebook is considered to be big time waster in our life. Teenager especially, should spend less time on Facebook and get some light. Using facebook is really a distraction for their education. Facebook could be the reason why students don’t get good score on subjects due to their preference to check their profile out rather than studying for exam. Adults, who spend their days on facebook, must be losing their time to do other productive things. My suggestion that we must be aware of this addiction. Some good ways may be developed to handle this problem including re-examining our priorities, spending more time with family and friends to keep our mind off the computer, limiting the amount of time spent checking our accounts and many others.
Facebook is a social networking site which is the most popular and widely used to connect people all over the world. It has both positive and negative impact to our life. All I could say to end this essay is let’s us Facebook properly so that it will benefit us rather than cause problems in our life
